Blackburn Rovers star Phil Jones is having a medical at United's training ground before signing a five-year contract for Manchester United ahead of a £16 million transfer to Old Trafford. Jones, who made his Premier League debut in March last year, played 28 times last season despite being hampered by injuries, and is part of England's European Under-21 Championship squad. Jones would face stiff competition for a first-team place at United from the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling.
Philip Anthony "Phil" Jones (born 21 February 1992) is an English footballer who plays for Premier League club Blackburn Rovers, as a defender.

Highly rated 19-year-old is in Manchester ahead of move to Old Trafford as the Red Devils capture the youngster under the noses of fierce rivals Liverpool. Betting was suspended on Phil Jones joining Liverpool around 90 minutes ago, then the market resurfaced with him odds-on to go to Anfield. The market then disappeared again as Twitter was flooded with rumours that the player was undergoing a medical with United. SkySports.com then posted a story speculating that Jones has been offered a five year deal to join the Reds.
