Manchester United Vs Marseille Preview

Manchester United welcome Marseille to Old Trafford on Tuesday as favourites to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Ferguson believes his side are primed for an end-of-season push – starting by securing a last-eight place in the Champions League.

United are fighting on three fronts and the Old Trafford manager issued a rallying cry to his trophy-chasing side.

He said: "It's an important time with us being involved in three tournaments. The key is to have everyone available - it would be nice to get that.

"It doesn't matter how many players you have had injured in the past, the important thing is to have them all available for the run-in.

"If we have that then it will increase our chances. But we are experienced enough to do what we're doing at the moment - taking each game as it comes.

"The focus is on Marseille at the moment. They're a good team. My team needs to step up now. And with these European games at Old Trafford on a midweek night there's a terrific atmosphere and that does help us.

"Hopefully it's that way and we get the result we want."

Ferguson has backed Dimitar Berbatov to end his goalscoring drought in Europe following the striker's two-and-a-half year barren run - stretching to 18 games.

He added: "He's capable of scoring all the time and he's got that ability. He's done very well for us this season and hopefully that continues."

Strategy: Manchester United have completed half the job and will want to finish it off on home soil. They will feel confident of that, but they will have to keep the back door closed because an an away goal for Marseille would change everything. Don't expect a gung-ho approach from the start.

Injury Update:
Rio Ferdinand remains out (calf) and he joins Anderson and Ji-Sung Park on the sidelines. Fletcher hopes to overcome an illness to figure.

MARSEILLE:
Having already proved they will be no pushovers, Marseille are further boosted with the return of a host of key players for this tie.

The French side were limited with a string of injuries, but they have cleared up with striker Andre-Pierre Gignac among those returning.

They will believe they can pull off an upset and the 1993 winners have the tools to cause the hosts all sorts of problems.

With Didier Deschamps in charge of the French champions, Marseille won't be short of European experience in the dugout.

He said: "We played a first leg that left the door open. United will be super favourites but even if we only have one small chance, we have to play to the end."

LIVERPOOL:

Dalglish is hoping that £35 million man Andy Carroll will be able to make his mark against United in what would be a highly pressurised debut for the striker.

Carroll is yet to play for Liverpool following his January transfer from Newcastle United because of a thigh complaint, but it is healing nicely and he is in contention, even if Dalglish did not want to admit that publicly.

Dalglish said: "Who we have and what we go with we don't know - and that includes Andy Carroll.

Strategy: Liverpool will need no motivation for this game but calm heads will also be required. That means Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher will have to remain super-disciplined while Raul Meireles, Joe Cole and Lucas will all have to be creative from midfield. Dirk Kuyt and Suarez will share forward duties and Liverpool need to hassle United's defence and get behind the opposition if they are to cause problems.

Injury Update: Carroll is likely to feature at some point after finally recovering from his thigh problem but Martin Kelly (hamstring) and Jonjo Shelvey (knee) are both absent.

MANCHESTER UNITED:

Ferguson has vowed to get his players in the right mental state ahead of their trip to Merseyside.

Manchester United lost for only the second time this season earlier in the week against Chelsea and the Old Trafford manager is determined not to let that setback ruin their title charge in the closing stages of the season.

He said: "The role of the manager is to make sure the players are on the edge of their game all the time. They're human beings, individuals, and not every player is the same.

Strategy: After their defeat at Stamford Bridge, Ferguson will be desperate to avoid slipping up once again. Expect him to pack their midfield as they look to shield their weakened defence.

Injury Update: The injury-list is headed by Rio Ferdinand who is out with a calf strain. Michael Owen (groin) is doubtful, while Anderson, Jonny Evans (both knee) and Ji-Sung Park (hamstring) are out. Nemanja Vidic is banned.

Referee:

Experienced Phil Dowd will take charge of proceedings on Sunday. The Staffordshire official has dished out the second highest number of yellow cards (102) this season, including six in three games involving United. Reds fans also saw Dowd in last season's Carling Cup final win over Aston Villa.

Prediction:

Liverpool 1-2 Manchester United

Chelsea vs Man Utd Preview and Prediction

Match Preview and Prediction: Chelsea vs Manchester United
01 March 2011, KO 19:45 GMT

Chelsea Team News

Alex and Yossi Benayoun are still both absent but Yuri Zhirkov is fit again and could play in his first league game since November. Carlo Ancelotti looks likely to stick with a 4-4-2 formation which will see Didier Drogba stay on the bench with Fernando Torres and Nicolas Anelka in line to start.

Probable Line Ups: Chelsea (4-3-3): Cech (Gk), Luiz, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole, Essien, Mikel, Lampard, Malouda, Torres, Anelka

Manchester United Team News

Ryan Giggs looks doubtful with a hamstring problem while defenders Johnny Evans and Rio Ferdinand are still not ready to return. Chris Smalling will therefore keep his place at the back. Scholes and Fletcher will probably be at the heart of midfield while Nani, Dimitar Berbatov and Wayne Rooney will provide the attacking threat.

Probable Line Ups: Manchester United (4-4-2): Van der Sar, O'Shea, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Fletcher, Scholes, Giggs, Rooney, Berbatov

Prediction: United might not have won at Stamford Bridge in a long while but the last couple of years they have come very close to grabbing all three points only to be denied by poor refereeing decisions. There have been only three draws in the last ten games between the two sides and with the stakes so high, we can expect both sides to go all out for the win.

Predicted Score: Chelsea 0-2 Manchester United

Marseille vs Man Utd Champions League Preview & Prediction

Marseille vs Man Utd Champions League KO 19:45 GMT 23 February 2011

Manchester United were without several senior players including Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs as they flew out for Wednesday's Champions League match against Marseille in France.

Manchester United
: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Lindegaard; Vidic, O’Shea, Brown, Rafael, Fabio, Evra, Smalling, Scholes, Gibson, Nani, Carrick, Fletcher, Bebe, Obertan, Tunnicliffe, Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez, King.

Referee: Felix Brych (Germany)
Assistant Referees: Mark Borsch (Germany) and Thorsten Schiffner (Germany)
Additional Assistant Referees: Babak Rafati (Germany) and Peter Sippel (Germany)
Fourth Official: Knut Kircher (Germany)

Prediction: United have been great away from home in the Champions League winning nine out of their last 10 away matches in Europe. Just as impressively, United had the best defensive record in the group stages, conceding only one goal.

They are playing a Marseille side that have injury problems in attack, which is why United are favourites to progress to the quarter-finals.

That being said, Marseille is not an easy place to go and win as Chelsea found out earlier this season and I expect them to put United under pressure on Wednesday. But look for Rooney to get United that valuable away goal that they are looking for.

Score: Marseille 1 Man Utd 2

After producing one of their best results of the season, Manchester United will attempt to translate that momentum into a much-needed away win as they take on Blackpool at Bloomfield Road tonight.

On Saturday, United dominated from start to finish in a 5-0 demolition of Birmingham City, with Dimitar Berbatov leading the way with his third hat trick of the season.

The win moved United two points clear at the top of Premier League table, and if they can secure all three points against Ian Holloway’s side, they’ll be five points up on Arsenal with the same number of games played, six clear of Manchester City with a game still in hand, and ten clear of Chelsea with the same number of games played.

Man Utd News

Manchester United will check on Rio Ferdinand’s groin injury, while Michael Carrick is also a doubt after injuring his ankle against Birmingham. Right-back Rafael is available after serving his one-game ban.

Manchester United (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Lindegaard, Rafael, O'Shea, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling, Evans, Evra, Fabio, Nani, Obertan, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson, Anderson, Giggs, Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Owen, Bebe.

Blackpool News

Blackpool will include captain Charlie Adam, despite the midfielder handing in an official transfer request. They have doubts over the fitness of defender Stephen Crainey, goalkeeper Richard Kingson and striker DJ Campbell.

Manchester United v Stoke City - Line up & Predictions

Strategy: Without Rooney again, the plan remains unclear but Javier Hernandez, who scored twice in a 2-1 win at Stoke earlier this season, looks the most likely candidate to partner Berbatov after his winner in the 2-1 victory at West Brom. United are likely to go with a 4-4-2 and will play a high defensive line to pin Stoke in their half.

Injury Update: Rooney is out with an ankle problem and Patrice Evra and Darron Gibson are both doubtful after picking up knocks at West Brom. Nani could be back from a hip injury but John O'Shea, Paul Scholes, Owen Hargreaves and Antonio Valencia are still out and Ji-Sung Park is away on international duty.

Manchester United Vs. Sunderland Preview

According to imscouting.com
Both sides come into the festive period in good spirits.  Manchester United find themselves top of the Premier League and with a relatively kind draw in the last sixteen of the Champions League. Meanwhile, Sunderland harbour genuine hopes of a European spot themselves and should Steve Bruce's side carry their form into the second half of the campaign, there is every chance that it might just happen.

Having said that, the statistics indicate that the chances of Sunderland pulling off a famous victory are slim. The Mackems have not won at Old Trafford since 1968 and last beat United ten years ago in a League Cup tie.  Last season, Anton Ferdinand's late own-goal denied Bruce's side a memorable win in the corresponding fixture.

The Black Cats will also have to contend with the fact that Manchester United remain the only unbeaten team in the country.  Sir Alex Ferguson's side have rarely hit top form this season, but have yet to lose in 16 Premier League games and will feel that there is little reason not to extend that run on Sunday.

United are sitting pretty at the top of the table, two points ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand.  Ferguson will be aware that perhaps their main danger on Sunday will be a sense of over-confidence and should they suffer from complacency, Sunderland have shown that they have enough quality about them to take advantage.  However, Bruce looks like he will have to contend with a number of absentees from his squad as he returns to the club at which he made a name for himself as a player.

The Sunderland boss has taken a realistic approach ahead of the game, saying "We know what to expect, it will be difficult. But I always enjoy going back, even if I do come back with my backside kicked."
Certainly Ferguson will hope to send his former captain back to Wearside nursing his wounds.

Champions League 2010/2011 Round 4 : Bursaspor Vs Manchester United Preview

Bursaspor Vs Manchester United
02 November 2010
KO 19:45

Bursaspor possible under Group C, but the Turkish side is not completely out of it yet, and United must be sharp to avoid a bad bite from Green Crocodile.

Avoiding defeat will be good enough for this night, the U.S., but it is not the choice of dropping points to Bursaspor and situations should ensure that the game is far more entertaining than last time out.

Sunderland Vs Manchester United Preview

Manchester United will once again have to struggle without key marksman Wayne Rooney when they travel to Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.
The England striker was denied his request to play on an ankle injury by manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and will not travel to Wearside this weekend.
The news comes as a welcome boost for Black Cats Steve Bruce, who has not won any of last 15 confrontations with former mentor Ferguson Management.
